Changelog
What each build brings
STOREGGA is in pre-alpha. Here is what each playtest build brings, and a preview of the next one. Plans can change.
Build 7 (playtest, October 2026)
New
- Host settings:
- friendly fire (off, explosions only, or full; your own base dome always protects you from your team);
- map rotation with a round length;
- choosing your side again on every new map;
- Survival keeps the character you joined with.
- The Kelp Forest: a new shallow arena with kelp stands, open sand lanes and mirrored bases.
- New Vael weapon, the Spindle: a living bio-torpedo the rider guides through its own senses.
- Vael can cut wires: a Shark that bites, crosses or rushes through a guided torpedo's wire cuts it, and the torpedo runs on blind.
- Torpedoes can be shot down: by rounds and blasts. Bots defend themselves too.
- Real destruction: subs break apart into pieces, a rescue capsule rises, Vael riders separate from their mounts, and every vessel shows its damage.
- Shark bite against systems: a bite tears off a weapon pod, leaks and sparks; your cockpit shakes and warns you.
- Collision damage: ramming rocks, wrecks, the seabed or other vessels hurts, by speed and material.
- Sound: the first in-game sound. Weapons, sonar, engine and cockpit damage, muffled inside the cockpit and placed around you underwater.
- Sea state: the sea moves; vessels ride the swell, can breach, and a torpedo that breaks the surface gives itself away.
Better
- Hulls and the third-person camera no longer pass through rocks, reefs, wrecks or the seabed.
- Lights stop at the seabed and rocks; the seabed is lit like real silt.
- A new water surface seen from below, with light shafts on high settings and a ray tracing switch on supported cards.
- Smoother on modest graphics cards: the drifting particles no longer cause stutter.
- Team balance between humans and Vael reworked.
Known limits
- The camera stays below the surface in open arenas; the sky comes later.
- Some damage effects are simple for now.
Build 8 (playtest, October 2026)
New
- The Hunter: a grown Vael war-vessel bred from a great white shark. Choose it as your second Vael pick next to the shark rider. It has a living first-person cockpit: your hands rest in the grip cups, the arch frames the open water, and the bond sight marks threats, contacts and lead in cyan.
- A new shark rider: a new shark and a new rider who lies low on its back, holding the harness ring.
- Guided torpedoes reworked: a guided shot now fires a single torpedo with one slack wire that drifts with the water and hits harder. Light unguided torpedoes keep their salvo of two. In the last stretch, the torpedo's own seeker takes over.
- Controls help and key bindings: press F1 for an overview of the keys of each vessel. Rebind every action in the settings, with conflict warnings and a reset to the defaults. Small key hints sit next to the depth and throttle gauges.
- An update screen: the main menu shows what is new and updates with one click.
- Linux (experimental): a Linux version for testers.
Better
- Bubbles: they burst at hulls, riders and rocks, and none drift through your cockpit any more.
- Visibility: how far you can see underwater is the same on every graphics setting, so higher settings give no advantage.
- Lamps: submarine lamps no longer show blocky, flickering light right at the lamp. How far away lamps and Vael glow can be seen is unchanged.
- Lead marker: submarines now get a lead marker too.
- Refit screen: sharper weapon pictures.
- HUD: readouts no longer crowd the bearing arc.
- Balance: the Hunter is tuned for team battles, and the bots fly both Vael vessels.
Known limits
- The Vael bots are still weaker than human bots in team battles.
- The Linux version is experimental: please report problems.
- The camera still stays below the surface in open arenas.
Coming next (plan, may change)
- A new refit screen: your own vessel in the dock, with the weapons as real 3D models.
- More weapons and gear from the design list.
- Smarter Vael bots.
- More life in the sea: more fish, corals and growth.
- Station windows, a sky and the sea seen from above.
